The 2016 DSHS Varsity Winterguard closed out an extremely successful local season April 2 at the Texas Color Guard Circuit (TCGC) State Championships held at Texas A+M University. Seeded number one going into the competition, the DSHS Varsity Winterguard won the preliminary competition, advancing to the finals. The Finals performance was truly special, earning the highest score for the whole competition regardless of class, and clinching the Scholastic A Class gold medal by 2 points.
Just 3 days later, the 18 DSHS Varsity Winterguard performers and 6 parents boarded a charter bus and traveled to Dayton, OH to compete in the Winter Guard International World Championships. This is the first time that Dripping Springs has competed at this renowned national contest. In a preliminary field of 122 other Scholastic A units, the DSHS Varsity Winterguard won their prelims round, advancing to the Semi-Finals and ultimately earning 10th place overall in Finals. This is an amazing accomplishment for the first time attending this national-level competition!
Thanks to Joe Burns, Dr. Gearing and Keith Lancaster for supporting the trip to Dayton, and to the parents who went with us or met us there. Congratulations to the student performers of the DSHS Varsity Winterguard – your dedication to excellence and passion for performing has been amazing all year!
