School’s Out, Food’s In!

April 23rd – 30th marks the annual local food drive that benefits our Dripping Springs kids, called School’s Out, Food’s In (SOFI). The band directors and band boosters encourage our band students to participate in this terrific effort, which provides healthy food to kids over the summer, when school programs are shut down. How does it work? School’s Out, Food’s In provides grocery bags that have one of four different food lists stapled to it. We grab a bag and fill it with the non-perishable foods that are on the list, and return the filled bag to the HS on Friday morning April 29th. Then each week during the summer the SOFI team adds fresh foods (vegetables, fruits, cheese, etc.) to the bags and delivers the food to the kids. One bag will feed three kids a healthy breakfast and lunch for the entire week!! Please have your student drop their filled bags off at the Locktite rental truck located in the loading dock area outside the band hall from 8:15 am – 9:00am on Friday April 29th. Don’t have time to fill a bag? Please consider donating an HEB gift card or donating directly to SOFI through their online system.

During your student’s band or color guard class on Friday, they will be introduced to the program, and the collection bags will be handed out. The MS and HS bands filled about 200 bags last year and collected $200 in HEB gift cards. We are hoping to top that this year. This is a great way for our band kids to help other Dripping Springs kids stay fed over the summer! Find out more even details about this effort by reading the full flyer or by watching their new video.

Starting April 23rd, Dripping Springs HEB will have many of the items located in a display near the east entrance (pharmacy end) of the store for your convenience.

Parent Volunteers Needed on Friday April 29th:

  • One or two parents to help collect the bags from the students from 8:15 am – 9:00 am.  Effort entails loading the grocery bags into the Locktite rental truck that will be located in the loading dock area outside the band hall.
  • Two parents from 9:05 am – 10:30 am at Locktite Storage (3000 E Hwy 290) to help unload the bags from the truck.  It may only take an hour.
